Solix Biofuels
Solix Biofuels, a Colorado-based company, has developed breakthrough technology which is commercially scalable and will enable the inexpensive global production of algae - based feedstock oil for biodiesel production.
Solix bioreactor technology is low cost, adaptive and rapidly scalable - designed to be “species agnostic,” enabling global producers to optimize oil yields with various species of algae and in numerous climates. Micro-algae can produce oils at a rate over 100 times greater than existing biodiesel feedstock such as canola or soybean, require considerably less water than these current alternatives and consume more CO2 in the process.
Production of algae-based biodiesel using Solix technology has a substantially higher energy balance than existing biodiesel fuels; meaning it requires much less energy to produce than it yields; not only does it require less land than conventional biodiesel feedstock, but it also does not compete for arable land resources with food production.
To grow algae Solix bioreactor production technology utilizes the waste greenhouse gases (CO2, NOx) from power and agricultural production, ethanol producers, and other industrial producers of greenhouse gases. This enables widespread applications for CO2-sequestration and subsequent carbon credit trading.
Solix Biofuels has recently secured a $15.6 million financing round from a number of financial players and strategic groups, including Sothern Ute Growth Fund and Valero Energy, the largest oil refining company in the USA.
