Prism Solar Technologies
Prism Solar Technologies, Inc. (PST) manufactures a unique planar concentrator
photovoltaic module that incorporates proprietary holographic optical films
to achieve low module manufacturing costs.
The company's primary business focus will be to sell the films to module manufacturers
however PST will also produce modules for domestic markets. The Holographic Planar
Concentrator ("HPC") technology uses volume holographic films to collect, spectrally
select, and focus sunlight onto solar cells for power and specialty applications. The HPC
elements replace up to 70% of the expensive silicon cells of a traditional module and
produce 5%-10% more kWh per rated Wp compared to traditional modules. Prism's HPC
technology can be used with any PV cell technology, including thin film.
In addition to existing pilot line in Tucson (AZ), Prism Solar Technologies has acquired
a new manufacturing site in New York State. The site, located in Highland, New York
includes 6.5 acres of land and a 93,000 square-foot manufacturing building. The facility
was purchased for $3.75 million from PLASMACO, a Panasonic subsidiary.
The Highland facility will ultimately produce 60 megawatts (MW) of solar modules per
year for the U.S. market and 1,000 MW of HPC film for sale to other solar module
manufacturers.
